All Star Event The SCWCA/Best Western Ocean Sands All Star Classic is now the second longest running senior wrestling All Star event in the country behind only the Daper Dan Classic in Pennsylvania. It was began by Coach John Checkovich of Brookland Cayce High School back in 1989. From 1989-1991 the event was an individual tournament. From 1992 to 2001 the event was split between 4A and 3A/2A/1A dual matches. And in 2002 and the event finally shifted the the format of an all classes North vs South dual match. In the history of the event, the South holds a 17-14 all time lead in the dual matches. Last year, the North won 80-56 over the South. NEW FORMAT In 2009, the SCWCA/Best Western Ocean Sands All Star Classic will take on a new format that will follow some of the other all star events in our state. For the first time, we will compete with another state all star team as we will welcome in a team of senior all stars from Georgia. On Friday March 6th at 6:00 pm we will have the North vs the South wrestle in a dual match. This match will be followed at 7:45 pm by the Team SC vs Team Georgia dual match. All matches will be at North Myrtle Beach High School. Wrestlers will arrive on Thursday, March 5 and have practices/events going on through out the 3 days. On Saturday, March 7 there will be the traditional Feature All-Stars Matches as started in 2003. Leading Individuals Two senior All Stars lead the way for this year's group. Eric Rholetter of West Oak High School is a 3x state champion at the 2-A level and will attempt to win his 4th state title in 3A this season at 119 pounds (West Oak was realligned to 3A this year).
