The Crescent High School wrestling team can thank Ben Dunn for its Class AA co-state championship. The Tigers can also congratulate Dunn on his individual state title.
In winning the Saturday's final heavyweight match over Rutledge Johnson of Christ Church, 4-2, Dunn not only captured the individual championship, he secured Crescent's tie with Loris. Both teams scored 83 points.
West-Oak was second with 81 points.
The Tigers had a pair of second-place finishers: Garnell Simpson at 135 pounds and Adam Parker at 215. Jack Lunsford was third at 119, while Carey Gambrell (103) and Jason McCollum (189) each took fourth.
"We finished the regular season 21-0. We qualified eight wrestlers and six placed in the top four," Tiger coach Russell Blackstone said. "We did something Crescent's never done."
