The Bishop England High School wrestling team will have to settle for a second-place finish in the team standings after a scoring error was discovered. The mistake cost the Bishops three points and the state championship.
The Bishops were awarded the Class AA state championship Saturday with 92 points. Second-place Loris scored 91.5. But officials discovered they had erroneously awarded the Bishops three points. The points were deducted making Loris state champs with 91.5 points. Bishop England was second with 89, while West-Oak was third with 88.
The Bishops qualified three wrestlers for championship matches and two won. Brad Croft won the 130-pound division, while Ryan Sherrer won the heavyweight division.
